There are foods out there whose nutritional content is so powerful and the benefits of eating them so amazing, that they are often referred to as “superfoods”. This is the stuff us guys over 40 need to be eating.
Raspberries, Beets, Rainbow trout, Cabbage, Safflower oil, Barley, Prunes, Cauliflower, and Parsley are all on the list of Superfoods according to Chatelaine. This healthy food list consists of foods that are packed with nutrients. They have also been proven to contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that prevent disease: from cancer and heart disease to arthritis, eye diseases and many more.
Now here is the question I have, If those are the best foods we can eat, what are the worst?
Our list today is not a pleasant one to write. In facts as soon as my wife reads this post I know my diet is going to change. Here it goes…
The 7 Worst Foods we can eat
Doughnuts are full of sugar and trans-fats and contain next to zero nutritional value. They also contain 300 calories in case you cared. The sad thing is that many still consider a doughnut to be a “breakfast food.”
Homer Simpson is crying right now.
One can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories and 55 mg of caffeine. For good measure it is loaded with artifical food colors and sulphates. Can anyone give me a good reason we should drink this stuff?
FYI: Diet soda is just as bad. Simply exchange sugar for aspartame.
3. Bacon (I am so sorry to all you bacon lovers 😦 )
Meats like bacon can increase heart disease by 42% and diabetes by 19%. Are you the gambling type?
4. French Fies
They say that one French Fry is as bad for you as one cigarette. It seems that Acrylamide is formed when white potatoes are heated at high temperatures. Acrylamide is good way to send out an invitation for cancer, heart disease and arthritis to join you.
5. Hot Dogs
The ingredients of Hot Dogs have always been somewhat of a mystery. What is not a mystery is that they contain sodium nitrite. This carcinogen has been linked to leukemia in children, brain tumors in infants and even colorectal cancer.
Not all Pizza is bad. However most commercially made and frozen pizza are full of artificial dough conditioners and preservatives. This means that the white flour that has been bleached and reacts in your body just like sugar, causing weight gain and blood sugar imbalances. Want a slice?
7. Ice Cream
I know, I know. “We all scream of Ice Cream.”
Here are the facts. Most ice cream is not only full of sugar, it is also loaded with trans fats, artificial colors and flavors, many of which are known neurotoxins (brain- and nervous-system damaging chemicals). Be careful, very careful when you pick out ice cream.
At least potato chips were not in the Top 7 (they were # Eight)
