You are sitting at your desk and notice that your eyelids are getting heavy. A quick glance to the clock on the wall tells you it is 2:00 PM. A pattern is happening.
Every afternoon you struggle to stay awake.
The good news is that you are not alone. The better news is that you can do something about it.
What to do when you are tired at work
1. Get enough sleep
Start with the obvious. If you are staying up until 3:00 AM every night playing x-box, you deserve to be tired at work.
2. Avoid carbs in your Lunch
Breads and Pasta are full of carbohydrates. They will spike your energy and then let your body crash. Try a salad with chicken or shrimp as an alternative.
3. Drink lots of Water
Dehydration causes fatigue. Keeping water by your desk will not only keep you hydrated, it will also keep you from reaching for those sugary snacks.
4. Take Vitamin B
I love Vitamin B. It is good for the heart, helps you handle stress and makes your urine look like it would glow in the dark. Oh, it also boosts your energy which is helpful around 2:00 PM.
5. Coffee = NO / Green Tea = YES
Coffee is a stimulant that will give temporary energy then likes to leave you on a heap by your desk.
Green Tea has a calming amino acid called theanine, which is known to support relaxation during times of stress without causing drowsiness.
6. Get your Iron levels checked
Low levels of iron are associated with fatigue, hypothyroidism, decreased athletic performance, ADD/ADHD, restless leg syndrome and even hair loss. For the sake of your hairline, check your iron levels.
7. Take your Vitamins
Vitamins are not just for Hulk Hogan, they are for everyone. A good multi-vitamin will fill in the gaps where your body is lacking.
